Naples

29 Jun

This past weekend my good friend Jen invited me to join her on her company trip to Naples, FL. It was my first time there and I found it to be quite a relaxing hop, skip, and jump away from Miami. Being that it is on the Gulf Coast of Florida, I was really anxious to see what it would be like during the spill. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Naples has remained, so far, unaffected.

I have been posting my photos on NBCMiami.com and did not want to repeat images on both websites… so for the sake of separating the two sites, I have only included one photo I took in Naples. It is my favorite photo that I took there and probably one of my favorite photos this month.

I also want to apologize for lack of a post this week due to lack of shoots so far. I am always open to ideas, suggestions, and locations of what would be interesting to photograph!

Coolest little town – VABCH

21 Jun

I recently returned from a nice little vacation in Virginia Beach. Why Virginia you ask? Well, I happen to have a remarkably good friend who just happens to live there. Aside from being a good friend, Michelle is one of the coolest people I know. I called her up and told her I wanted to come visit and take pictures and for 5 days she showed me around and let me snap away.

We did everything from concerts (Hall and Oates & Passion Pit), to bike riding, wake surfing, touring… we even visited a haunted hotel. Actually, we tried to visit the haunted hotel (The Cavalier) but the doors were locked so we peered through the windows. I am also 100% sure that we saw a ghost on the top floor window and when we mentioned it to her friends later that night, one of them confirmed that some one had in fact jumped from the very window a long time ago.

Vagabond

14 Jun

Its been a while since I have been out, wait , thats not true. Let me rephrase: It has been a while since I have been to the Vagabond. So this Saturday night, I headed out with my good friend Joanne. You may recognize her from my post “Downtown Joanne”.

Anyway, her and I were just dancing, minding our own business, when suddenly there was a man on stage getting whipped with a paddle. Crazy! I guess that is how the Vagabond is, anything goes. Its a place where you go if you feel like going out in nothing but body paint and a wig or dressing as funky and independent as you like. A huge jump away from South Beaches “Models and Bottles” rule. It is really a one-of-a-kind place and putting a label like “club”, “bar”, or “lounge”, really does not do it justice.

SO, when I entered the Vagabond, I realized I had left my camera in the car. Not cool. After a cocktail, I went back to get it because I just cannot be without it. What if I miss a great moment… I would definitely regret it! I got back just in time for the festivities…

Enjoy (but not too much) :)

The Everglades

7 Jun

A few days ago I was invited on a gator finding mission to the Everglades by an old friend. I was super excited because I had been dying to hit up the ‘glades for a few months now and could just not find the time. Landscapes has always been a type of photography that has interested me and this gator finding mission was a perfect opportunity for me!

I woke up that day at 5:30 in the morning full of excitement ( about heading to the Everglades, not waking up early). Morning light is one of the best times to shoot anything and we were definitely up early enough!

My friend rented a little flat bottomed boat for a couple of hours and off we went. I have to mention that I was super paranoid about getting eaten up by mosquitos that I covered myself from head to toe. Jeans, a long sleeve white shirt (I read mosquitos are attracted to dark colors) and a pair of sneakers. Man was I wrong… and super hot. By the end of the boat ride, my shoes were off, pants rolled up, and I had a nice tan of a tank top.

Anyway, we saw 1 alligator. It was cool to see it swimming up at the top of the water but by the time we got close enough to photograph it, it had ducked under. I was really happy with the landscapes I got. So many times people associate South Florida with beaches but we also have an amazingly beautiful marshland right in out backyard!

Downtown Joanne

2 Jun

A few months ago I invested in a Canon G11. I just wanted something I could carry around in my purse at all times that would not weigh me down but would take great photos.

My friend Joanne lives downtown. Downtown Miami.

I dont know if it is the smartest thing to disclose her residence but for photography sake, I need to. Last week, I spent a lovely afternoon going through her closet and drinking wine on the balcony with Joanne. I got snap happy, pulled out the G11 and the following blog post is the result of that wonderful afternoon.

Oh, did I mention that she is a fabulous Interior Designer!
